Understanding Crypto Delistings in Your Alto CryptoIRA®

As part of Alto’s integration with Coinbase, your Alto CryptoIRA® gives you access to trade a wide range of cryptocurrencies. Occasionally, Coinbase will delist certain tokens from their platform. When this happens, it can impact your ability to manage those assets through your Alto account.

This article will help you understand what a delisting means, what actions you can take, and how to stay informed about future changes.

What Is a Delisting?

A delisting occurs when Coinbase suspends trading for a specific cryptocurrency. This may happen for several reasons, including protocol changes, low liquidity, or the token no longer meeting Coinbase’s listing standards.

When a token is delisted:

  • You will no longer be able to buy or sell the asset through your Alto CryptoIRA.

  • You may lose access to real-time pricing or valuation information.

  • The token will not be available for transfers to a third-party wallet. Alto CryptoIRA’s current Coinbase integration does not support wallet-to-wallet transfers.

  • The asset will remain visible in your account, but will effectively be frozen until (and if) Coinbase relists it.

Examples of Delisting Notifications You Might Receive

Here are a few examples of how Coinbase may communicate a delisting:

  • Suspension Only:
"Coinbase will suspend trading for [Token] on [Date] at [Time]."

  • Migration & Suspension:
"[Token A] is migrating to [Token B]. Coinbase will suspend trading for [Token A] on [Date] at [Time]."

  • Limit-Only Mode Prior to Suspension:
"[Token] is now in limit-only mode. Market orders are disabled. Trading will be fully suspended on [Date] at [Time]."

  • Multiple Coins Delisted:
"Coinbase will suspend trading for [Token 1], [Token 2], [Token 3], and [Token 4] on [Date] at [Time]."

As a courtesy, Alto may share these notifications, but you should subscribe to Coinbase status alerts for the most timely updates.

What You Need to Know If You Hold a Delisted Token

  • You cannot buy, sell, or move the asset within your Alto CryptoIRA after the delisting date.

  • Your holdings will remain in your account and may be visible, but pricing data may no longer be available.

  • If Coinbase decides to relist the token in the future, you may regain the ability to trade it. (For example, XRP was previously delisted and later relisted.)

Common Questions

What happens to my token after it’s been delisted?

Your holdings remain in your Alto account. However, you cannot trade them, and pricing may no longer be available. We’ll provide updates if anything changes.

Can I sell or transfer the asset?

Not at this time. Coinbase has suspended trading, and Alto does not currently support transfers to third-party wallets.

So I can’t do anything with these assets?

Not immediately. If Coinbase relists the asset in the future, you may be able to resume trading. Until then, the asset will remain in your account.

Why did Coinbase delist these tokens?

Coinbase regularly reviews its listed assets and may suspend trading if a token no longer meets its internal standards. These decisions are made solely by Coinbase and are outside of Alto’s control.

How can I stay informed moving forward?
